It kind of sounds more like a reality TV competition where the competitors get to eat bugs while skydiving from a helicopter flying upside down than a bum-in-the-saddle, Sydney to Melbourne fund raising venture. I guess half way through the ride it could become both!
Julian (Thommo) first came up with the idea whilst doing a spin class (it just goes to show how brave he is to, firstly, admit that he does spin classes and, secondly, that someone who weighs as much as he does dares to sit on a gym bike! OUCH! That could hurt.
“Actually, I thought about it a lot when I was spinning, in preparation for the Cambodia ride last year. I just thought some of these blokes were busting a gut and bringing in only 5k or 10k and doing everything they could, but there just wasn’t any assistance or guidance to help them get the kind of money that would make a difference.”
“So I came up with something real simple,” he said. “If 25 people raised $40,000 each that would be a Million Dollars (MD). MD also stands for Muscular Dystrophy.” |
