Hey all you supporters of the Tour Duchenne
its Josh again with another countdown blog.
It has been a busy week in the lead up to
the big event with many fundraising nights occurring in the last week or two so
I am hoping to see a huge jump in the donation tally very shortly.
This week we received our official itinerary for the ride
which I have included below for all those of you who will be following our
journey online (I hope to upload photos during the ride as well as continuing
this blog). I have included the itinerary for all you people following us from
the comfort of your homes. Receiving the itinerary was very exciting and I have
looked at each days map and summary in detail in some attempt to familiarise
myself with the journey. Some of the days seem a bit daunting such as Day 2
which has us ascend a hill (more like a mountain) with a 7% gradient (pretty
steep)…bit I guess the trip wouldn’t be as affective if it was easy to
accomplish.
The official Tour Duchenne fundraiser night is Wednesday at
the Cargo Bar in Sydney. It will be a great night with many items on offer at
the silent auctions. There are still tickets available and can be purchased for
$100 at https://donations.mdaustralia.org.au/.
I will leave you this week with
a quote that was sent to us by Samantha at Island Cycle Tours.
“It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country
best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you
remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill
impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have
driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.”
-Ernest
Hemingway, By-Line
What a great quote! However I don’t think Ernest Hemingway
was considering riding 1200kms when he wrote this sweet little quote otherwise
it would have ended with something like…
“However, if your intention is to travel over a thousand
kilometres I would suggest travelling by motor car. Man can only endure so
much!”
